In Among The Trees I am working with the way time affects nature and natural phenomena. I am observing and documenting natural mutations that are present in nature as a result of time passing. In this work I am focusing on the effects time specifically has on trees and their environments. Thus far I have been able to document in my parents backyard in Ivy, VA, my surroundings in Richmond, VA, and in the place where the two places are connected by land and water at Point of Fork in Goochland, VA. In this work I have been making digital negatives and using Cyanotype as my printing process. Which, with natural toning methods achieves a monotone, aged appearance. I find this addition of materiality, through my printing process and paper making, in my work gives me a greater sense of satisfaction with the end result. Our world has become so digital in the modern era, everything is stored on the cloud or is digitized in some form. With my work I aim to play with and break away from that standard by bringing my photographs into the physical realm through book making and hand made paper making.
